ABRAMS
Other surnames in query: PINCKNEY

My grandfather, Saul ABRAMS, was born and raised in Granville in the 1890's and early 1900's. We know very little about his parents, but suspect that they came to America in the mid to late 1800's, perhaps from Germany. They married into the PINCKNEY family, who we think were already there - but it's very sketchy. There was a branch of the ABRAMS family that had a general store in Granville that was there at least until the 1970's - when we last saw them. Any information about the ABRAMS or PINCKNEY families would be much appreciated. (Query posted 1/15/99) Steve Abrams

Looking for information on Ethan A. ADAMS born about 1860 in Whitehall. He is a farmer according to 1925 Whitehall census and is married to a Mary ? (could be BLACKMER). Also Dorothy was not Ethan's daughter but Mary's from a previous marriage. Mary later married Roy TILLOTSON. Ethan's parents are possibly Samuel Draper ADAMS and Angeline R. HATHORN. I'm trying to find whatever I can about the ancestry of the following people: Elizabeth MILLETT/MILLET, who may have been from Moscow, NY, and who married Curtis BURDETTE, probably in Whitehall, NY. Elizabeth MILLETT is supposed to have French-Canadian / Canadian ancestry. (BURDETTE is a French name, so Curtis may have had some French blood, too.) Curtis had a brother named James BURDETTE. James had a daughter named Lida, born in Whitehall, NY. Curtis and Elizabeth had at least one child, a daughter Katherine Elizabeth BURDETTE, born 13 April 1875 in Whitehall, NY. Katherine married Frederick Benjamin HALL, who was born in Whitehall, NY on 6 November 1875. He was the son of John W. HALL and Josephine BENJAMIN. Josephine went to school at the Granville Seminary for Young Ladies in Granville, VT, and also lived in Whitehall, NY. Sometime in her youth she scandalized the town by galloping astride a horse down the main street of Whitehall. She had an earlier marriage to a man named LANDON. Their son, Elmer LANDON, died in the 1920s. Josephine's father was Sam BENJAMIN. The biggest holes in my data are for the MILLETT and BURDETTE and BENJAMIN relatives--I have a lot of data on the HALLS. I've been all over the Whitehall part of the site with no luck, except that the person who supplied the church marriage/baptism records was named Emily CLARK LANDON--perhaps she's related to Josephine's first husband? EARLL
Other surnames in query: ADAMS, CADY, WATSON, DEXTER, WALLACE, RYAN

I'm searching for information on Nathaniel EARLL (born 1705 in Little Compton, RI), who moved to Washington Co. about the time of the American Revolution. He married Sarah ADAMS, daughter of Richard and Mary CADY ADAMS of Pomfret, CT. They were Quakers. Specifically, I'm interested in a daughter Mary, who was not mentioned in a listing of known children in a TAG article on Nathaniel. Nathaniel moved with his young family and his brother John's young family from Pomfret to the Quaker oblong at Beekman's Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY about 1735-40. The two families lived there until 1760, when John's family moved to Orange Co., NY and Nathaniel's family moved to Great Barrington, MA. Nathaniel later -- about 1776 -- moved to White Creek in southern Washington Co. and sometime thereafter, before 1790, he moved to Whitehall, Washington Co., NY, where supposedly he died about 1790. A son, Daniel, born c1728, married Mehitable WATSON, daughter of Robert WATSON and Mehitable DEXTER and lived for a while in Great Barrington, Machias, ME, and Nova Scotia. Daniel eventually settled in Skaneateles, NY, where he died and is buried. Daniel's son Robert became a brigadier general in the army. Other known sons of Nathaniel are Nehemiah, died c1808 and David, born c1752 and died 16 August 1818 g.s. Spafford, Onandaga Co., NY. Nathaniel had two known daughters, one who married Daniel WALLACE and the other who married John RYAN; both of these men are mentioned on the 1790 census for Hoosick, NY. Another probable son is Nathaniel, Jr., born 1741-2, enlisted in the militia at Dutchess Co. in 1760. A probable, third daughter is Mary EARLL, born September 14, 1749, probably in Beekman's Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY. She married her cousin Benjamin EARLL, born 1744, son of Nathaniel's brother John, and moved to Smith's Clove (now Highland Mills) Orange Co., NY. There is very little hard information on her in Orange Co. other than Benjamin's wife was named Mary EARLL. Mary and Benjamin EARLL are my great-great-great-grandparents, and I would like some evidence that she is the daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah ADAMS EARLL. (Query posted 1/29/99) Bruce Earle

HENDERSON
I am trying to tie Jacob HENDERSON, born c1800 NY, to the Revolutionary War soldier James HENDERSON who lived in Washington Co., NY, in the 1780's-1820's. Jacob HENDERSON married Thurza ? and moved to Lapeer Co., MI, from NY. I have several hypotheses that have led me in this direction. The most compelling reasons for my belief that this is the right family is the use of the male family name Zina. Zina, I believe, is a son of James HENDERSON who also lived in Jefferson Co., NY. Jacob HENDERSON'S son, who is my 3d great grandfather, was named Zina HENDERSON. Another family name is Alfonzo. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. Also, if you have any info to refute this, please inform me so I can bark up another tree, as it were. (Query posted 1/24/99) Greg Lamberson
