NOTES FROM THE TRANSCRIBER, MARY ANN SALISBURY:
REV. JAMES O. and RELEAF M. (SMITH) MASON’s
DAUGHTER IN LAW, JULIA HEATH MASON, was the WIDOW of their SON, CAPTAIN, later
BREVET MAJOR ALONZO TRUMAN MASON. They were the PARENTS of EMMA and FRANK.
JULIA was the DAUGHTER of MORGAN HEATH and SARAH SALISBURY (Sarah was Morgan’s 2nd of 3 Wives). Her BROTHER was HENRY L. HEATH.
JULIA was the MATERNAL GRAND DAUGHTER of ELSA ALICE REYNOLDS and JOHN SALISBURY
WILL :
In the name of God, Amen:
I, RELEAF M. S. MASON, of the Town and Village of GREENWICH, WASHINGTON COUNTY,
and State of NEW YORK, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do hereby
make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and
form following:
FIRST: - I direct my EXECUTRIX to pay all my just and lawful debts as soon as
may be after my decease --
SECOND: - I give and bequeath to The BOTTSKILL BAPTIST CHURCH of GREENWICH,
N.Y. (My Dear Old Church) the sum of two hundred dollars.
THIRD: - I give and bequeath to my Beloved Former Pastor, REV. THOMAS CULL, the sum of fifty dollars.
FOURTH: - I give and bequeath to my DAUGHTER IN LAW, JULIA H. MASON the bond
and mortgage I own and hold upon the home place I now occupy in the village of
GREENWICH; also the due bill of $100 signed by EDMUND H. GIBSON, TRUSTEE of The
BAPTIST CHURCH aforesaid –
The one hundred dollars having been advanced for improvements on the Barn on
said Home Place.
FIFTH: - I give and bequeath to my NEICE, JENNIE M. STOVER, the use of three hundred
dollars for and during the term of her natural life; and in case she may for
her care and comfort need to use the principal sum of said $300 or any part
thereof, then I direct my EXECUTRIX hereinafter named to pay the same to her or
for her use and comfort.
SIXTH: - All the rest, residue and remainder of my property. Of every name and
nature, and wherever situated, I give, and devise, and bequeath, absolutely to
my TWO GRANDCHILDREN, EMMA S. COLE and FRANK H. MASON, to be equally divided
between them share and share alike.
I hereby make, nominate and appoint my DAUGHTER IN LAW, JULIA H. MASON the sole
EXECUTRIX of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills
by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
1st day of May 1897.

The above instrument, consisting of two pages was subscribed by the above named
RELEAF M. S. MASON, in our presence and in the presence of each of us; She, at
the same time, declared said instrument, so subscribed by her, to be her Last
Will and Testament and asked us to sign our names as witnesses thereto and we,
thereupon, in her presence and in the presence of each other, so subscribed our
names.
