Philip E. Bailey, 58 White Creek, NY-Philip E. Bailey, 58l, better known as "Mr. Fix-It", a resident of Shaftsbury Hollow Road, White Creek, NY and a former long time resident of North Bennington, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Albany, NY Veterans Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Bennington on April 10, 1941, he was the son of the late Frank and Daphine (Restino) Bailey. He received his education in the Arlington schools and was a Graduate of Arlington High School. Mr. Bailey was a veteran of the US Navy and later served in the Vermont National Guard for 18 years until 1995, where he was known as "Beetle Bailey." Mr. Bailey was first married to the former Donna Loomis who died April 23, 1996. He later married Doreen (Derosia) Reed, May 16, 1998 at the family home in White Creek.
For 29 years Mr. Bailey owned and operated "Mr. Fix-It," an appliance repair business in the Bennington area.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, VFW Hamed Fowler Post in Manchester, VT. MT. Anthony Lodge 13, F&A.M. in Bennington and Shriners Cairo Temple in Rutland. He was a life member of Bennington Moose Lodge #1223 and a retired Member of the North Bennington Fire Department.
Mr. Bailey enjoyed camping and bowling . He sponsored the "Mr. Fix-It" bowling team for over 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Doreen Bailey of White Creek, four daughters, Kimberly Arnold of Bennington, Melissa Davendonis of Hoosick Falls, Darvyl Boliack of Johnsonville, NY and Kelly Grignon of Lansilngburgh; four granddaughters, five step-children Cindy Garvey of Ira, VT. Michael Reed, Diana Gordon and Jeffrey Reed all of Bennington VT and Bruce Reed of Greenfield, Mass. 18 step-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, nephews, and cousins., Mr. Bailey was predeceased by a step-daughter, Lisa Legacy.
The funeral was held on Saturday from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial took place in the family lot in Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek, NY.
