North Granville Burying Grounds

A small burying ground, N.E. of the bridge at N. Granville, is the oldest in this part of town, now disused. Only the following data occur on the few stones here bearing inscriptions. [According to Dr. Asa FITCH in 1849.]

1. Col. Elijah WHITE died Dec. 1, 1804 aet. 56 ys. 8 mths.
2. Elizabeth his wife died July 31, 1820 aet. 74 ys.
3. Rebecca wife of Wilson WHITE died Oct. 30, 1800 aet. 28 ys.
4. Mary, wife of Wilson WHITE died Aug. 22, 1819 aet. 44 ys.
5. Sacred to the memory of Mr. Roger BENNETT who died Feby. 28th 1799 aet. ___ years.
The orphan's friend entombed in silence lies
Beneath the scupltured stone waiting to rise.
When vanquished death shall yield his rigid reign
And Bethlems Babe, all glorious come again.
But ere that time shall grateful science grow
By aids which from his generous bounty flow.
Thus white my tombe you see surviving viewers
Some sad survivor soon may look at yours.
As sets, the faded sun in western skies
Thus in an east immortal shall he rise.
(This stone broken in three pieces)
