Last Will and Testament of Thomas Dennis

THOMAS DENNIS DECEASED-Recorded October 18, 1813 

 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF THOMAS DENNIS  

Be it remembered that I Thomas Dennis of Easton in the County of Washington and state of New York Esquire being of sound and perfect mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (this is to say).---  Imprimis - My will is and I do will and order that my debts funeral charges and just expences be all paid and satisfied by my Executor hereinafter named and appointed.  Item. I give and bequeath to my wife Hannah Dennis all my household goods and furniture of every description to be for her sole use and disposal, and I also further give to my said wife the profits and income of all my Estate both real and personal for and during her natural life, except such things as shall be herein after otherways disposed of.---  Item. I give and requeath to my son Humphrey Dennis one hundred dollars to be paid in one year after the de cease of my wife Hannah and I further give to my said son Humphrey Dennis one promissory note that I hold against him to be given up to him immediately after my decease.  Item. I give and requeath to my son Thomas Dennis three hundred dollars to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis by my Executor.--   Item. I give and bequeath to my son Britton Dennis two hundred dollars to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis and I also give to my son Britton Dennis three promissory notes that I hold against him to be given up to him immediately after my decease.  Item. I give and bequeath to my son George Dennis three hundred dollar s to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis.  Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Dennis one hundred and forty dollars to be paid to him in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis and I further give unto my son Charles Dennis one promissory note that I hold against him to be given unto him immediately after my decease.  Item. I give and bequeath to my son Job Dennis twenty dollars to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis.--  Item. I give and bequeath unto my six grandsons namely Dorastus Dennis, Marvin Dennis, George Dennis, Ransom Dennis, Thomas Dennis (son of Elihu Deceased) and Putnam Rider fifty dollars apiece to be paid to them in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis if twenty one years of age, and if any should be under that age then they are to receive their legacy when they arrive to the age of twenty one years.--  Item. I give and bequeath to my three granddaughters namely: Minerva Sisson, Sarah Stiles, and Lydia Dennis fifty Dollars apiece to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis if eighteen years of age if not when they arrive to that age.  Item. I give and bequeath to my three granddaughters namely: Sarah Rider, Hannah Rider, and Harriet Rider twenty five dollars apiece to be paid in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis if they are then eighteen years of age, and if not to be paid to them as they arrive to that age.--  Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Redford Dennis one hundred dollars to be paid to him in one year after the decease of my wife Hannah Dennis if twenty one years of age but if he should not then be twenty one years then I order my executor to pay him five percent yearly interest with the principal when he arrives to the age of twenty one years. Provided nevertheless and it is my will that if his mother Cynthia Dennis shall become needy and in the opinion of my Executor unable to support herself, then and in that case, I order my Executor to apply such part of the aforesaid hundred dollars as he shall judge necessary for her support and assistance and deduct the same from what I have ordered him to pay to my grandson Redford Dennis, and further my w ill is if any one of my six sons namely Humphrey Dennis, Thomas Dennis, Britton Dennis, George Dennis, Charles Dennis, and Job Dennis shall either of them after my decease exhibit any claim against my estate for any thing done in my life time or for any thing had or received of them then the legacy herein given hom or them so claiming, to be null and void and of no effect.--  Item. I give devise and bequeath unto my son Simeon Dennis, to him his heirs and assigns forever all my estate both real and personal or of what nature or kind so ever the same may be if not herein otherwise disposed of he giving rendering and paying unto my said wife during her natural life all the rents profit s and income of the same, and also after the decease of my said wife shall fulfil this my said last will and testament in every respect according to the true intent and meaning thereof   Lastely . To this my said last will and testament I nominate constiture and appoint my said son Simeon Denn is sole executor desiring him to see the same duly and truly fulfilled according to the true intent and meaning thereof ratifying and confirming this and the five foregoing pages to be my last will an d testament.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal and tenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and twelve.  Thomas Dennis (L.S.) Signed, sealed published and declared by the above names Thomas Dennis to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who a t his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the same.

----------------------------------------------------- Washington Count y ss: Be it remembered that on this ninteenth day of October in this year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen personally appeared before me Edward Savage Esquire Surrogate of this said county Redford Dennis one of the witnesses to the preceding will who being duly sworn, on his oath declaird that he did see Thomas Dennis sign and seal this instrument in writing of which the preceeding is a copy and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and Testament; that at the time thereof ? said Thomas Dennis was of sound disposing mind and memory ? to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponents; that his name subscribed to the said will is of his own proper hand writing which he subscribed as a witness thereunto in the presence of the Testator an d that he did see George Briggs and Thomas Dennis subscribe their names a witnesses to the said will in the Testators presence; And be it also remembered that on the same day and year afoursaid person ally appeared before me; the said surrogate Simeon Dennis the Executor in the said will named who was duly sworn to the true execution and performance of the said will by taking the usual oath of an Executor
